5,100 women disappear every day. How? We turn 50. We disappear from books, magazines and movies. Society's message is that youth and beauty trump age and wisdom - so go away mature woman, you don't matter.
We don't matter? Women's life expectancy is 79.7; if we reach 50 without cancer or heart disease, our life expectancy is 42 more years - 92.
This generation of women has always been trailblazers and now we are blazing the trail of a fulfilling, vibrant, exciting second half of life. Once again, we have no role models for our Second Blooming because neither our mothers nor our grandmothers had this breadth of opportunities.
Why do women have this opportunity for a Second Blooming? Because we live longer, are healthier, have more money, are better educated, can access a virtual world through computers, possess a variety of skills, and are accustomed to planning our own lives.
We Second Blooming women will make our lives matter and will continue to contribute to society.
We agree with Agatha Christie who said, "I have enjoyed greatly the second blooming. Suddenly you find - at the age of 50 - that a whole new life has opened before you."

In a conversation this week one of my new acquatintances, I told her about our upcoming boook, Second Blooming. Her immediate response was about newscasters. The male newscasters stay on the air, no matter how long in the tooth they get. However, the female newscasters are young. Well, ok Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer break that mold.
I am eager to buy this book! As a 56 year old retired RN I've had a lifetime of experiences, but I have yet learned how to bloom a second time. I can't wait to learn how to 'grow up again." Please let me know when it's published. Mary Beth Sloan, Pensacola Beach, FL
Grandma Whistler didn't pick up her paint brush until her 80s. This book will encourage us all to start 'painting' the next chapter of our life well before 80! Can't wait to read it!!!
Whoo Hoo - we signed with a publisher and Second Blooming will be out just before mother's Day 2009.
The book sounds great! I rebloom every new year and that keeps me young :)
Congratulations on your book!! This is such an important topic for women. I'm excited to see you writing and speaking about it.
I wanted to let you know that the mentorship and example you provided for me while I was at PJC was instrumental in my decision to pursue and complete my PhD. Thank you!!
